Under the reign of Elduran family, Sarkara has been annexing territory and gradually expanding. This came to a sudden halt when Andras, a man wielding never-before-seen magic, blew open the gates of the castle and killed the King in his throne.

Andras has declared that time of kings is over, and the time of the common man has began.

Sarkara is inspired by the culture and mythology of Turkey and the Middle East. You will do battle with rogue bandits, wild animals, magical monsters, and nature spirits. Your responses in dialogue and the choices you make affect your reputation with the characters, and change how the story unfolds. Certain choices made during pivotal moments may greatly affect how the story ends.

Sarkara: Prototype is a short RPG Maker fantasy game, made almost entirely with publicly available art assets. I am a designer and writer, but no artist. Still, I have a story to tell, and—as titled—this is the prototype version of that story. Sarkara: Prototype is meant to serve as Act 1 of a larger story that will be created should I be able to hire a team and pay for full development.

FEATURES

  • Play in the nation of Sarkara, inspired by the culture and mythology of Turkey and the Middle East. You will do battle with rogue bandits, wild animals, magical monsters, and nature spirits.
  • Interact with a diverse cast of characters, each of whom may have different dispositions toward you, and respond to your choices and actions in contrasting ways.
  • You can customize the appearance of the main character, as well as choosing their name and pronouns. Characters may respond to you differently depending on your character's profile.
  • Your responses in dialogue and the choices you make affect your reputation with the characters, and change how the story unfolds. Certain choices made during pivotal moments may greatly affect how the story ends.

MECHANICS

  • Inspired by classic JRPGs, you will undertake quests to carry out favors or important missions, and level up through combat experience to improve your stats.
  • Roaming animals and monsters can be found in the wild, many of which will pursue you when you are spotted. Some monsters will be hidden from the player and ambush you when you least expect it. When a monster makes contact with the player, a battle encounter begins. The deeper into the wild you go, the more dangerous the encounters become.
  • Combat takes the form of an Order Turn Battle, with each participant taking one action per turn. The order in which the participants act is dependent on their Agility. Some participants may join or leave an encounter mid-battle.
  • Attack with various weapons, use items, or use Techniques and Magic to turn the tide of battle. Should an encounter prove too difficult, you may attempt to escape—likewise, some enemies may attempt to flee should the battle turn against them. Some encounters may even be resolved non-violently, though this may affect the aftermath of the battle.
  • Aside from your character level, you also have levels in certain Skills. By using certain weapons, Techniques, and Magic, you level up the associated Skill. This allows you to increase certain stats and allows you to learn new Techniques and Magic.
  • You can customize your weapons to change the damage type they deal or add status effects to your effects. Customize your armor to increase your damage resistance or resist certain kinds of status effects.
  • Enemies may drop parts that you can either sell to earn money, or use to craft items and tools to improve your effectiveness in combat. The town also offers bounties, allowing you to earn money by slaying a certain amount of wild monsters.
